The Head – Research at ChemVolt’s Center of Excellence will lead advanced research, development, and innovation in next-generation energy storage technologies. This role is responsible for driving fundamental and applied research across lithium-ion, sodium-ion, semi-solid, and solid-state battery chemistries, while closely integrating R&D outcomes with cell manufacturing, scale-up, and gigafactory operations. The position requires strong leadership in electrochemistry, materials science, and battery engineering, with a focus on improving performance, safety, lifecycle, and manufacturability of cells. Key Responsibilities Research & Technology Development • Lead and oversee research activities on Lithium-ion battery chemistries, including: • LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) • LMFP (Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate) • NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) • NAM and advanced cathode/anode materials • Conduct in-depth studies on: • Lithium-ion transport mechanisms • Intercalation and de-intercalation processes • Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) formation and stabilization • Drive research on semi-solid and solid-state battery technologies, including electrolyte development, interface engineering, and safety enhancement. • Lead R&D initiatives on Sodium-ion batteries, focusing on material selection, performance benchmarking, and commercialization readiness. • Investigate degradation mechanisms of cathode and anode materials over time, including capacity fade, impedance growth, thermal effects, and cycle/calendar aging. Cell Design, Testing & Validation • Supervise design, fabrication, and testing of coin cells and pouch cells for R&D and pilot-scale validation. • Define and implement electrochemical testing protocols (cycle life, rate capability, thermal stability, abuse testing, aging studies). • Analyze test data to optimize materials, formulations, and cell architecture. • Ensure benchmarking against global best-in-class cell technologies.
