I have made a concerted effort to gain broad and extensive knowledge of the U.K Construction industry working within a wide variety of sectors ranging from one-off multi-million pound new build homes, though to major school/collage campus re-developments, civil & infrastructure improvement schemes as well as more recently within the Defence industry. I have worked Client, Main Contractor and sub-contractor level which has offered me great insight into most contractual arrangements. I am proficient with use of the major forms of Construction Contact including NEC, JCT and other bespoke arrangements. Typical duties include:- * Preparing, monitoring and maintaining accurate project budgets at the various stages of the RIBA project life cycle. *Adopting a strict Change Control process - taking into account scope change via CE’s and management reserve drawdowns as required *Preparing monthly forecasts and analysing actual cost expenditure (typically with a 5% accuracy) *Facilitate Purchase Order creation / amendments with the Supply Chain team and help to ensure Delivery Partners are paid in accordance with the contract. * Undertake Earned Value Management techniques to monitor schedule/cost performance and reviewing any mitigation action with the delivery team leads. *Compiling month end reports including root cause / trend analysis and providing detailed and meaningful narratives to help with decision making / mitigation action. *Working to often very demanding month end deadlines and to a strict Business Rhythm. * Support in compiling project cost estimates and the creation of the Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the most accurate Cost Reporting. *Full engagement and communication with the project delivery team and regular site attendance * Mentoring and developing of junior members of the team I further spent time within the Estimating Department working closely with the Head of Estimating and on a number of early RIBA stage Estimates.

I was the sole Quantity Surveyor / commercial manager within this firm and responsible for the financial success of each build. I would ensure cashflow and expected margins were achieved whilst tendering to keep the future order book full. Being a smaller niche company, I had the unique opportunity to get involved with the wider aspects of the running of the business such as SAGE accounting, P&L, VAT audits, project management, site supervision, material ordering etc. I would always deal 1-2-1 with Clients from initial enquiry through to handover.

Typical contractors QS duties working for Amey on their Hampshire Highways Term Contract and responsible for the financial performance of Hook depot and their 40+ operatives. Working closely with Hampshire Council to deliver their capital and revenue budgets, my typical duties include: estimating, site measurement, scheme valuation, sub-contractor tendering, letting, preparation of contract agreements / T&C review and monthly payment certification. Monthly cost and valuation reconciliation of work performed. Always reviewing ways of maximising profits ethnically though each activity, whilst ensuring delivery to the client. Forecasting cashflow and pushing monthly performance via use of work breakdown structure (WBS) in balance with delivery of works orders and their associated KPI's. Key achievement gained pushing for the use of defined cost as the correct method of assessment for compensation events (over the pre agreed schedule rates). My reasoned advice at the time assisted to create formal guidance which was rolled out and helped generate a culture change which helped to value the change fairly and correctly. Additional operational experience gain with TMA noticing, works order programming & winter maintenance duties. In conjunction with the above, acting as Principle QS for Amey's Royal Windsor Maidenhead Highways, Bridgework and Winter Service Contact whilst also looking after Hampshire area North.
