Nicolas Lee
Research And Development Engineer @ PercAssist, Inc
About
I've always been passionate about helping others, particularly through healthcare. My interest in optometry led me to work as an optometric assistant, where I gained valuable experience on the technical side of the profession. This role helped me recognize the importance of diagnostic equipment and technology in delivering quality care. Later, I had the opportunity to conduct engineering research related to opthalmology through UC Irvine and Alcon. This sparked my passion for designing tools that can directly improve people's lives. Now, I'm eager to apply the design skills I've devloped through my education to create products that enrich the lives of others.

Experience

Master's Program Captstone Project
Alcon in partnership with UC Irvine
Irvine, California, United States
•Designed and implemented 3D printed fixtures to securely align and hold different sized handpieces and a laser vibrometer system in place for Alcon’s ophthalmic surgery handpiece test fixture •Collaborated with vision measurement systems vendors to develop efficient test methods, greatly reducing measurement time by integrating their products into our improved design •Participated in interdisciplinary teamwork and discussion alongside various engineers within Alcon’s manufacturing and R&D team to better understand the handpiece and testing design

Mechanical Engineering Researcher
Irvine, California, United States
Designed 3D print parts to make a functioning stereo fundus camera. Collaborated with team to capture images of the retina. Skills Utilized: -Utilized Fusion 360 software for 3D modeling -3D print parts using Prusa software -Evaluated progress and presented oral reports to research team

Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Researcher
Irvine, California, United States
Designed microfluidic chip and rocking system to develop retinal organoids from stem cells. Skills Utilized: -Programmed motors to control the organoid culture environment -3D printed a rocking system to limit adherence of the organoids to chip walls -Analyzed simulations for growth medium flow within chips -Completed lab safety training and wore PPE

Optometric Assistant
Darren Lee, Michael Gee, OD
Foster City, California, United States
- Greeted patients, scheduled appointments, managed the phone line, advised patients in selecting frames, and distributed patient shipment orders - Catalogued glasses and contact lens inventory, updated office database, interacted with sales representatives, and handled patient insurance plans and payments - Frequently cleaned office and upheld Covid-19 protocols
