As an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) with the JET Program, I have the opportunity to work with students at 16 elementary and junior high schools in Muroran, Hokkaido. I work closely with local Japanese teachers to support the development of English language skills among students ranging from 3rd year ES to 3rd year JHS. In addition to my role in the classroom, I provide translation and interpretation support for the sister city relationship between Muroran and Knoxville, TN, strengthening cross-cultural ties. Key Responsibilities: •Translation & Interpretation: Translate both written and oral communications for city officials and local organizations to facilitate smooth interactions between English and Japanese speakers. •Cultural Liaison: Support the exchange of cultural initiatives and collaborative projects between Muroran and Knoxville, TN, enhancing diplomatic and community ties. I also brief students preparing to study abroad in Knoxville, providing insights into local customs and helping them navigate interactions with their host families. This experience has enhanced my language skills, cultural awareness, and ability to foster international relationships, contributing to stronger ties between Japan and the U.S.
