About
I’ve been in the Content Marketing business since Bob The Builder had a number one hit with Can We Fix It. That was back in December 2000, by the way. The first few years were spent playing videogames and writing articles about them for the Official PlayStation Magazine. Tough gig. I then graduated through the ranks at Future before snagging an editorship of my own mag. With the tide turning ever more towards the digital, I moved onto websites, picking up the requisite skills in Content Management Systems, SEO, Social Media, paid search, email marketing, YouTube and all the other good stuff. From 2012 I moved away from print and digital media and into the realm of B2C ecommerce (with a splash of B2B on the side), first heading up the content team at an SEO agency, and latterly heading up the Content team at Lovehoney. And what a wild ride it was at Lovehoney. At its peak there were 15 of us in Content, and working to my ever-evolving customer-focused content strategy, we delivered tens of thousands of product descriptions, packaging copy and content for thousands of own-brand products, hundreds of Advice guides and blogs, YouTube videos galore, three seasons of a podcast, one highly-engaged forum, three new websites – and for a period, translations for all of it into French, German and Spanish for our non-English-language websites. We were on the frontline of delivering Lovehoney’s message of Sexual Happiness for all. The rewards were millions of page views across the websites, increased engagement across non-owned channels and boosts to referral traffic, and overall growth of brand awareness that helped lead to sustained year-on-year growth. It wasn’t all about the content, though. As the company continued to grow, its developed-in-house systems started to creak and through 2019 and 2020 I played a key role in a humongous Digitial Transformation project, helping to transition the company and the content to SalesForce Commerce Cloud, Amplience (CMS), Yotpo (reviews provider), Discourse (Forum platform) and Akeneo (PIM). The best bit of the Transformation project? We delivered it during lockdown when we were all working remotely. The Lovehoney days are over for me now, but new and exciting adventures in Content Marketing await.

It was my privilege and pleasure to lead, train and empower a team of supremely talented content professionals during my eight and a half years as Lovehoney’s Head of Content. I could write a book on my time at Lovehoney (and maybe one day I will...) but these were some of the highlights: Creating an ever-evolving customer-focused content strategy for both owned and external channels Creating and maintaining the Lovehoney Editorial Style Guide and tone-of-voice guidelines Leading the content side of a Digital Transformation project that replaced legacy systems with Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Amplience (PIM), Akeneo (PIM), Yotpo (reviews) and Discourse (forum) Overseeing the launch of thousands of products across the websites Leading on the creation of an Advice section that informed customers about the benefits of Lovehoney’s many and various products, helped them choose the right product for them and how to make the most of it Introducing the Position of the Week blog series, which is still going strong after 250+ posts and still garners tens of thousands of page views each week Helping to create new in-house B2C, B2B and mainstream brands, including overseeing all content for packaging, online listings and product marketing Co-presenting three seasons of Lovehoney’s Sexual Happiness Podcast Implementing a successful engagement-focused YouTube strategy Leading an ongoing site-search project that boosted conversation rate across hundreds of on-site search terms Building landing pages for teams across the business Planning and overseeing the content for the launch of four localised websites: lovehoney.ca, lovehoney.eu, lovehoney.co.nz and lovehoney.es Working with some brilliant people across all departments, from Tech to Trading to Customer Care to Creative Services, as we pursued our shared mission to spread sexual happiness across the globe Winning not one but TWO Queen’s Awards for Enterprise (International Trade)
