Nell Liu

Nell Liu is a graduate of Hwa Chong Institution’s Art Elective Programme (AEP). She enjoys using creative thinking skills through creating artworks and designing. She has travelled to 16 countries and can adapt to new environments quickly. Nell is a proactive learner and leader who volunteers actively with given opportunities. She volunteered to be the class monitor and also lead the school in centering exercises for 1600 students in morning assemblies. Nell discovered that art was her passion when she was four years old. She has worked with pencil, acrylic, oil paint, digital media and also created 3D sculptures and diorama artworks. During her four years as an AEP student at Nanyang Girls’ High School (NYGH), she achieved multiple distinctions in Art, reflecting both her skills and enthusiasm for art. For Nell’s graduation project at NYGH, she created an interactive artist book incorporating pop-ups, textures, and lighting elements. Seeing audiences actively engage with her work reinforced her desire to pursue design. “Joy and Kindness”, Nell’s artwork displaying the freedom of imagination of a Singapore girl, was one of the two artworks selected to be displayed in the MRT Station 6th Avenue. It has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of commuters, showing the power of art to enrich public spaces. Among over one thousand Hwa Chong Institution students of Nell’s batch, she was one of the fourteen students selected to join the Art Elective Programme (AEP). At Hwa Chong, she developed strong technical skills, conceptual thinking, and artistic discipline. Her growing interest within art lies in design. For her A-level art coursework, she produced a series of digital illustrations exploring themes of family and love, challenging perceptions of reality with a narrative twist. In 2024, Nell was ranked top 5 in the National Chinese Speech Competition for high school students. Her persuasive and expressive ability to communicate has led her to great heights, including chinese ambassador, drama club representative, and multiple class committee roles.
