Ndumiso Daluxolo Ngidi, Ph.D

Ndumiso Daluxolo Ngidi is Director for the International Centre of Non-Violence (ICON) and an Associate Professor at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa, with a research focus on gender, sexualities, and children's geographies. His work examines how spatial, social, and cultural dynamics shape the lived experiences of young people, particularly in contexts marked by poverty, inequality, and gender-based violence. Employing participatory visual methodologies, Prof. Ngidi has explored issues such as school-related gender-based violence, queerphobia, rural and township girlhoods and the vulnerabilities of orphaned youth in South African townships. His scholarship is grounded in transformative pedagogies inspired by thinkers like bell hooks and Paulo Freire, aiming to foster inclusive and liberatory educational practices. Recognised for his impactful contributions, he has received accolades including the Mail & Guardian's 200 Most Influential Young South Africans in Education and the World Bank/Sexual Violence Research Initiative’s Development Marketplace award for innovative gender-based violence prevention. He was also a fellow in the highly competitive Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation's 10 Best Young African Scholars.
