Natalie Stillwell

I work children K-12 to enhance both their skills and confidence in mathematics. This involves working with students to help them understand the core concepts of what they are learning in school, from basic arithmetic to higher level math. This position requires me to teach difficult subjects in a digestible manner, as well create an encouraging, fun environment.

I work alongside Dr. Taub to manage our citation databases, published (and to-be-published) papers, and ongoing experiments. I work closely with programs such as EndNote and have familiarity with scientific publication. Additionally, I take the lead in statistical analysis of our work. I also work with Dr. Taub in designing our experiments. This position demands self-sufficiency as I am responsible for much of the lab’s administrative work, as well as a team-focused mentality as I teach the new undergraduate assistants.

As Chemical Hygiene Officer, it is my responsibility to ensure that our laboratory stays up to date on the most effective chemical safety procedures. I am responsible for managing our chemical inventory organization, as well as chemical disposal and hazard reduction.

I work personally with Dr. Taub to manage our ongoing experiments on Closed Ecological Systems. These systems will give us insights into nutrient recycling in lakes, as well as have broader applications for human closed systems in space (such as satellites or other encampments on planets). We recently published a paper at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.lssr.2024.12.002. I am responsible for the statistical analysis of our experiments and am heavily involved in the experimental design process. My day-to-day tasks are mostly keeping the lab on track, requiring me to use my skills in chemistry, organization, and communication.
