Natalie Saez

I am a toxinologist and pharmacologist with a passion for drug discovery and spiders. My experience has provided me with a deep understanding of the molecular basis of the interaction between venom-peptides and ion channels, and their potential for therapeutic application. I have a strong background in the field of molecular biology, protein biochemistry and venom research. I am experienced in a variety of techniques, including protein expression and purification (particularly using novel methods for production of disulfide-rich animal venom peptides), electrophysiology, and structural biology. In my most recent role at the King Lab, I have worked on the development of a new therapeutic peptide derived from funnel-web spider venom. This drug candidate, developed by Infensa Bioscience, has demonstrated efficacy in a range of preclinical studies and provides hope for cardioprotective and neuroprotective treatments for heart attack and stroke patients..
