About
Nastaran is an Iranian American architect, born and raised in a small but dense Iranian city bordered by the Alborz Mountains and the Caspian Sea. In 2016 she co-founded Studio BANAA, a young San Francisco based architecture and design practice primarily focused on hospitality and cultural sectors. Being a first generation immigrant herself, she has a particular passion for working closely with nonprofit and community groups from diverse backgrounds to provide thoughtful and meaningful design solutions tailored specifically to the client’s unique and rich history, culture, and story. Nastaran believes that significant changes come from actions that happen on a smaller scale. Her role as the acting Design Director at Studio BANAA has positioned her as a consistent voice for the diverse array of projects that come through the studio, navigating clients and internal staff to challenge and push through their own creative boundaries. The projects she has led have been featured on platforms such as Hospitality Design Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, DesignMilk, Architect Magazine, Architectural Record and ArchDaily. Aside from leading the design direction in the studio, she has been active as a juror at the Academy of Art University, California College of the Arts, UC Berkeley, AIA Design Awards, among others. She has taught at UC Berkeley and is currently an Adjunct Professor at California College of the Arts Interior Design program. She is a board member of Deborah Slater Dance Theater in San Francisco, taking an active role in the local art and dance community.
