Working closely with the Area Director for London, providing hands on and solution focused advice in respect of staff conduct and performance. Supporting managers with recruitment needs and maintaining the PSL through networking with recruitment agencies. Providing HR support to all of London and South employees of GrantRail. Implementation of HR policies and where required providing training and further guidance to ensure consistent practice across the business. Working closely with the Health and Safety Manager in order to update and make improvements to training and induction of new staff.

Working in a fast-paced HR team providing advice on complex ER issues in relation to conduct, performance, grievance and sickness management. Also leading on complex change management initiatives such as restructures and TUPE projects. Supporting the whole organisation and individual services to achieve their overall aims and objectives by providing a efficient and sound HR service.

Supporting staff at all levels of the business up to regional directors. Acting as advisor for complex issues, including attendance at formal hearing including appeals. Working closely with employment solicitors with tricky cases and additionally any cases which have gone to ET. Promoted to an advisor position after 11 months in post as HR administrator.

Proving front line reception service to all visitors to HR department including preparation of recruitment papers, supporting with payroll submission including monthly season ticket loan information. Updating the HR system with new starters and leavers archiving files and casework, filing confidential letters and correspondence.

This was a 1 year industrial work placement based at Wandsworth prison where my experience began and I gained a real insight into the world of HR. I found this environment both interesting and enjoyable and developed some professional relationships with prison governors and other senior managers who I supported with their HR requirements.
