Naomi Schroeder

In my role as Green Building Associate, I am conducting the County greenhouse gas inventory for buildings and facilities and support a range of decarbonization efforts. My work focuses on deconstruction, embodied carbon, and building electrification. I collaborate with our resilience, waste, and logistics teams, engage with stakeholders throughout the General Services Agency, and participate in regional workshops and committees to share knowledge and common strategies on climate action. A leader in government climate action, Alameda County is working to decarbonize its existing building portfolio 50% by 2030 and aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2045. New construction projects and major renovations are expected to be carbon neutral, maximize energy efficiency, incorporate distributed energy resources, and optimize grid interconnectivity.

As a marketing associate, I work directly with the director of teacher education to brainstorm and create marketing material based on needs. I assist with communications and outreach through newsletters, socials, and other collaborative efforts, and created marketing material for the 2024 Association of Waldorf Schools of North America Conference.

Built Revit models from point cloud technology, prepared detailed construction documents and survey sets, reviewed shop drawings and assist with construction administration, reviewed code compliance in different municipalities, attended meetings with clients, contractors, and other professionals, assisted with marketing efforts, including staff and client interviews, blog posts, content creation, and reports.

Summer research assistant to Professor Emerita of Architecture Julia Robinson. Collaborating with two research assistants, I synthesized and organized prior student research and architectural projects that examined urban planning and development in the North Minneapolis community. Our team built a comprehensive digital archive and designed marketing materials to support an incoming graduate studio, ensuring continuity in research and project design.

I assisted Fiddlehead's lead designers while gaining valuable hands-on experience through designer and client meetings and site visits. My responsibilities included helping with sample pulling, material selection, presentation preparation, and supporting the overall schematic design phase. I also contributed through AutoCAD drafting, data entry, and organizing inventory. Additionally, I managed the company’s social media accounts to help maintain an engaging online presence.

Supported planning-related tasks to assist the project coordinator, developed asset documentation to inform future program scaling and strategic planning, collaborated with Transition Town and authored a newsletter article focused on local sustainability efforts, and participated in a community planting day, helping to plant 100 trees in the South Saint Anthony Park neighborhood to expand urban canopy and enhance community resilience.

Worked with communications team to produce creative print and social media graphics to support clinical staff, public health programs, student groups, events, and other marketing needs.

Followed a residential green building project for about one year from schematic design to construction. I observed client meetings and debriefed with architects, reviewing 3D renderings, CAD drawings, and design decisions.
