About

As a Master’s student in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University, I have a strong foundation in Electronics and Communication Engineering, complemented by hands-on experience in embedded systems, AI, and medical device innovation. My journey has been driven by curiosity, compassion, and a desire to solve real-world problems that impact lives. Over the years, I have led and contributed to several interdisciplinary projects, ranging from developing a patented AI-based diagnostic tool for breast cancer detection to building wearable systems for monitoring patient vitals and assisting wheelchair users with navigation. I have worked across hardware, firmware, and software layers, integrating signal processing, sensor integration, and machine learning to create meaningful, scalable solutions. During my time at DRDO (NSTL), I developed a YOLO-based object detection model for sonar data, focusing on military-grade signal processing. At Emertxe, I optimized performance for MPSoC systems, enhancing embedded performance in real-time environments. These experiences taught me to think beyond disciplines and focus on systems, context, and user impact. What sets me apart is my ability to connect engineering depth with human purpose. I don't just code; I build to understand, empathize, and create. Whether through health tech prototypes, academic research, or innovation-driven collaboration, I aim to bridge the gap between technology and care. Now at Columbia, I am excited to deepen my expertise in biomedical systems, AI for health, wearable devices, and translational research. I am actively looking to contribute to cutting-edge research labs, medtech startups, and cross-functional teams working at the intersection of electronics, data, and human-centered design. If you are working on something bold—from medical diagnostics to digital health to next-generation assistive technology-I would love to connect, collaborate, or learn more.

PI: Elizabeth Olson Implantable microphone With colleagues from Mass Eye and Ear, MIT, and Columbia, the Fowler lab is developing an implantable microphone with the goal of integrating it into a totally implantable cochlear implant, eliminating the need for an external component. Sensor design This microphone contacts the umbo, the portion of the manubrium (arm) of the malleus which vibrates along with the tympanic membrane. Benefits to this design include natural amplification from the ear canal. The microphone is a sensor with dual layers of PVDF, a piezoelectric material, coupled to titanium electrodes. Future studies Future steps include conducting a live study using sheep as a large animal model. In addition, the lab is developing a fixation device to stabilize the microphone in the middle ear.
