The undergraduate attachment was a research and work-based orientated rotational training program, which made the student be acquainted with knowledge of both underground and surface mining operations. The trainee got an in-depth understanding in but not limited to: •Application of theoretical knowledge and gaining of practical experience in the mining production cycle. This was from drilling, blasting, loading and hauling up to installation of support. In these aspects, the student got exposure to the standard operating procedures, doing of re-entry and making safe of areas, together with the marking of both development and production ends making use of survey layouts • SHEQ policies (ISO 14001 and ISO 18001) • Tracking of KPIs that affect the production cycle which included Availability, Utilization, Efficiency, Overall Equipment effectiveness(OEE), half cast factors, advance etc. • Standard operating procedures of rock mechanics, survey, geology, ventilation and mine planning departments in the technical department and how they add value to the mining process • Airflow and pressure surveys together with exposure to mine ventilation layouts and plans. The trainee was also involved in the successful smooth wall blast design project and de-watering pumps optimization at the Mine.
