About

I've been building backend systems for about 6 years, mostly with PHP and Laravel. These days I'm also writing Go when the problem calls for it, sometimes you need something leaner, sometimes PHP is exactly right. Depends on what you're solving. What I find interesting is the architecture, figuring out how to structure code so it doesn't become a nightmare to change later. Events over direct calls. Clear boundaries between services. The kind of stuff that sounds boring until you've inherited a codebase where everything depends on everything else. I've written plenty of code I'd rewrite today, and that's probably the point; every project teaches you what you'd do differently next time. I contribute to open source when I can. Have a couple of packages on Packagist, one for payment integration, another for handling permission delegation in Laravel. Publishing code publicly keeps you honest about quality. Lately I've been going down the rabbit hole of low-level programming. Compilers, ABIs, how things work at the assembly level. Not because I need it for work, just because I want to understand what's actually happening when code runs. Currently building a multi-tenant hotel booking platform at EWAA Hotels — 110+ properties, payments, real-time inventory. The backend is Laravel but the frontend is Next.js and TypeScript, so these days I'm working across the full stack more than I expected. It's a good problem to have.

Building the hotel booking platform for 110+ properties at EWAA Hotels (Al Muhaideb Investment Group). I built this from the ground up, backend, frontend, everything in between. When you own the whole stack, you think differently about how pieces should fit together. You feel where the failure points are before they become problems. The system handles the usual booking complexity, availability, pricing, and payments across multiple gateways, but what I spent the most time on is what happens when things go wrong. Happy paths are easy. It's the edge cases that teach you how to design properly. Timeouts, conflicts, partial failures. The architecture knows how to back out gracefully when it needs to. Frontend and backend stay in sync through real-time events. Users don't refresh and hope that they see the actual state of their booking as it moves through the system. Protocol Buffers keep the communication tight. RTL support for Arabic markets meant rethinking assumptions I didn't know I had. I pick tools based on what the problem actually needs. Sometimes that's PHP, sometimes TypeScript, sometimes something else entirely. The choice should follow the constraint, not the other way around. Still iterating. The system today is better than what I shipped initially, and I already see what I'd improve next. That's probably the point. Stack: PHP 8.4, Laravel, Livewire, Alpine.js, Next.js, TypeScript, Zustand, Tailwind CSS, MySQL, SQLite, Redis, RPC, Protocol Buffers, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS

Multiple projects, ride scheduling, service bookings, and delivery tracking. Every project taught something new. Real-time systems, WebSocket layers, state sync under load. Broke things, fixed them, understood why. Some projects needed React, others just needed server-rendered pages. Started trusting my instincts on when to use what. Stack: PHP 8, Laravel, React, Redux Toolkit, Pusher, MySQL, Redis, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS, Vite, MongoDB, Express Js, Node Js

Client work. Where it started. Real problems, real deadlines, no safety net. Client says the form is broken, you fix it, you learn why, you don't break it that way again, build dashboards, integrations, whatever needs building. Stack Overflow got me halfway, debugging got me the rest. First time understanding that shipped code has consequences. Stack: PHP, MySQL, AJAX, Bootstrap, HTML, CSS, PHPMYADMIN, Python, Jinja, Grunt, Node.js, Express.js
