Mohammed Oladele Suleiman

As a Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant at East Tennessee State University, I have been working with the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Sciences. My main project has been focused on investigating antibiotic resistance from environmental sources. In this role, my duties include operating and instructing laboratory analytical instrumentation such as the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and use of the IDEXX machine. These instruments are crucial for public health applications in environmental health. Additionally, I have been involved in field work, specifically conducting habitat condition assessments, as well as various research tasks. This includes managing supply ordering, facilitating research on antibiotic resistance testing from field-sourced environmental samples like sediment, water, and wastewater. I also perform contracted work such as habitat assessments and water quality testing. In terms of teaching experience, I have provided laboratory instruction on environmental analysis in environmental health particularly for ENVH 4397 supervising close to about 20 students. This course covers the use of qualitative and quantitative methods in analyzing the environment. I have also offered support for laboratory research and research writing. This includes keeping, grading, and maintaining student and faculty records. Furthermore, I have completed data entries, collected and analyzed data, and prepared MS Excel spreadsheets. Additionally, I have actively participated in project meetings, seminars, and prepared presentations to address current environmental health challenges.

Carried out literature reviews, participated in journal club activities, and provided bench work assistance in ongoing research work in the lab.

I assisted with the monitoring and management of hydrogen sulfide levels in wastewater collection system which is crucial for preventing structural damage to pipes, equipment and controls.

Successfully managed EHS for multiple operations across the South-South region of Nigeria, maintaining a perfect attendance record, and effectively communicated with government officials and third-party stakeholders, resulting in the successful implementation of new EHS initiatives. Independently developed and implemented business resiliency plans, showcasing the ability to work autonomously and meet critical deadlines.

Bidding and execution of contracts for both formal and informal sectors. Procurement, maintenance, and supply of goods and services to private companies and government parastatals.

Head of Science Department. Preparing lesson plans and note of lessons for delivery. Performed laboratory experiments and prepared students for their college external examinations.
