The Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives obtained funding from the World Bank through Public Sector Capacity Building Project (PSCBP) Credit Identification No.IDA Credit 3904-Pak, being managed by the Ministry of Finance. Responsibilities of Economist in the project include “planning, formulating, coordinating and implementing strategic interventions on a country wide basis for creating an enabling environment for industrialisation in the country. Study the national and sectoral priorities, objectives, plans and programmes, development strategy and resources in relation to the policy in vogue and identify critical and core issues; Study of policies of key line Ministries including but not limited to taxation, foreign exchange, financial markets, land, labour market, legal and institutional issues and foreign investment; Undertake necessary analytical work, before policy decisions are made; Preferably conduct and in special circumstances arrange to be conducted studies in different areas of industrial and economic development;

Teaching & Research in Economics

Examined the product-wise effect of each proposed formula of tariff negotiations in Doha Round, by applying various coefficients (say 5,10,15,20,25) on bound tariff level of Pakistan’s tariffs, tariff level of major market countries and tariff level of major trade competitors. Assessed the socio-economic impact on our economy of various scenarios emerged on the basis of above examination keeping in view the present economic situation of Pakistan.

The responsibilities also include coordinating with International Donor Agencies like UN, WORLD BANK, ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK and Islamic Development Bank and developing linkages with other relevant programmes and organizations to secure support for the completion and implementation of different projects in LUMS.

CARE International is an international humanitarian organization working for a world of hope, tolerance, and social justice in 70 countries. Major responsibilities were: Reviewed documents relating to USAID’s Request For Application (RFA) for Empowering Pakistan Job (EPJ) and Community Rehabilitation Infrastructure Support Program (CRISP) Collected and collated information on the work and scope of business industry, public sector and civil society organizations in Pakistan Identified and mapped key industry sector in Pakistan and provided information on work force Identified and explored potential public, non-profit and business sector organizations (developed comprehensive list, arranged and coordinated meetings, discussed the RFA etc) for partnership with CARE. Assisted the Lead Consultant and CARE staff in writing and finalization of the EPJ proposal
