I lead an organisation that comprises six teams across five functional areas: 1. Supply Chain & Fulfilment (two teams working on forecasting, ordering, receiving, managing and distributing inventory; and picking customer orders), 2. Last Mile (routing, delivery, and the rider app), 3. Cloud Platform (public cloud infrastructure), 4. Data Engineering & Business Intelligence, 5. Tools and Automation (internal tooling).

I led a sub-department of 50 colleagues across 5 teams developing cloud-native applications as part of Ocado Smart Platform's Supply Chain product. My direct reports were engineering managers. Pairing with Group Product Manager, I provided technical, product, strategic, and organisational leadership for my teams. Technology stack: Java, Spring, AWS, React.

I led the OSP Service Counter team developing a greenfield product for managing deli counter-style manufacturing in new Ocado Fulfilment Centres. I formed a new team with high autonomy and a lean process. The resulting product was well-architected and used lessons from other teams to avoid past pitfalls. I organised several initiatives to support knowledge-sharing and encourage collaboration including Sharpen the Saw, Brown Bags, the Book Club, and the departmental Innovation Day. I was also a frequent organiser of the bimonthly departmental meetup. Working with the Ocado Technology Academy, I designed and ran several instances of a workshop on monitoring and alerting in the Hatfield and Krakow dev centres. To address a lack of strategic technical vision in the department, I initiated and led the 'Technical Assembly', a self-selecting group of engineers spanning 8 teams to collaboratively identify, prioritise and address the highest-value technical tasks. I led recruitment and training for my department and helped the department grow by more than 30% in my last 7 months in the role. I led a newly-created team to deliver a control software for Ocado's proprietary inventory management stations from scratch in 12 weeks. I balanced business imperatives and technical choices and motivated the team to produce a quality product within an extremely challenging deadline. Technology stack: Scala, Akka, Cassandra, React JS, Bacon JS, docker, CoreOS, gitlab.

I developed greenfield reactive and resilient applications for frame-loading, marshalling, and vehicle-loading picked customer orders from Ocado's fulfilment centres. Tech stack: Scala, Akka and Play.

Within the Automated Storage and Order Picking Systems (ASOPS) team, I developed control and reporting software for state-of-the-art, real-time systems providing high-density storage (ten of thousands of SKUs) and automated fetching, and replenishment. Working on the Supercontroller project, I led the design and development of low latency, high throughput real-time systems. I designed algorithms to optimise routing, replenishment and stock rotation. By my initiative, I added layers of static analysis to the team’s applications, uncovering and fixing thousands of problems. I won a peer award for this work. Technologies include Core Java, SQL, GWT and Python.
