Mitul Karmaker

As an intern with the Community Paramedic Integration Project (CPIP), a Canadian nonprofit organization, I supported the development of a community-based healthcare model aimed at improving access to care in underserved and rural communities in Sri Lanka, with a focus on the Northern Province. My role involved contributing to community health research, program design, and evaluation to help adapt community paramedicine models to resource-limited and post-conflict settings. I worked closely with CPIP leadership on initiatives related to preventive care, health education, early intervention, and system integration, ensuring approaches were culturally appropriate and community-driven. I also assisted with stakeholder outreach, partnership development, and grant-related research, helping to build the foundation for a pilot program that complements existing healthcare systems rather than replacing them. This experience strengthened my skills in global health research, nonprofit program development, and health equity–focused policy work.

Oversaw 4 supervisors and 15 staff, managing 150+ weekly print and media projects while contributing to $100K+ revenue and supporting $300K budget planning. Spearheaded the launch and daily operations of a new media production service, independently managing half of the business and fostering a sustainable, inclusive, and student-focused environment. Led recoding of 15 products, product development, pricing strategy, and website redesign, streamlining offerings for efficiency, accessibility, and profitability. Implemented operational systems to enhance staff workflow, order fulfillment, inventory management, and vendor coordination, significantly improving overall service performance. Advocated for equitable, campus-wide access to print and media services, ensuring inclusive, high-quality, and customer-focused delivery.

Operated and maintained printing equipment and networked systems after thorough training. Used Adobe Acrobat and InDesign to support efficient print services. Delivered professional customer service by resolving inquiries and fostering a welcoming environment. Maintained strong teamwork and adhered to AMS and P&CC policies for a productive workplace.

Facilitated daily STEM activities for 40 campers, guiding them in Micro:bit coding and hands-on experiments to build critical thinking. Worked closely with co-counsellors to introduce science, math, and technology concepts while fostering a fun, safe, and inclusive environment. Modeled positive behavior, ensured fairness, and supported camp operations, team collaboration, and camper engagement.

Delivered STEM programs for children ages 5–13, focusing on Micro:bit coding, hands-on experiments, and inquiry-based learning in chemistry, physics, and math. Supervised and led a team of 8 counsellors to support 40 campers, designed inclusive activities, and fostered a safe, engaging, and creative environment. Developed a talent show integrating science, music, and art to celebrate camper creativity and confidence, incorporating camper feedback to empower their voices. Adapted programming for diverse needs, handled sensitive situations with discretion, maintained safety protocols, communicated with parents, and managed administrative tasks.

Assembled and packed online orders with accuracy and care, ensuring timely and correct deliveries. Assisted customers during pickups, verified purchases, and provided helpful, friendly service. Maintained safety and hygiene standards during the COVID-19 pandemic. Balanced fulfillment and customer support responsibilities, and contributed to process improvements and daily team goals.
