Misgana Shewangizaw Chimsa
Software Developer Intern @ Flux Robotics 🧲
About
I'm Misgana , a biomedical engineer with an MSc in Biomedical Engineering, Biorobotics specialisation, from the University of Twente. I'm passionate about medical robotics, image-guided interventions, navigation algorithms, human–robot interfaces, and robotic control systems. My professional experience at Flux Robotics spans two complementary domains: surgical robotics navigation software and medical imaging pipeline development. On the navigation side, I build intra-operative interfaces in Qt with real-time robot control, image-to-robot registration, and clinician-oriented workflows. On the imaging side, I design and deliver end-to-end Python pipelines for clinical CT processing , segmentation, surface mesh generation, and vascular centerline extraction. My MSc thesis developed a registration-aware, image-guided navigation workflow for a mobile magnetic endovascular robot, validated on patient-specific vascular phantoms.Open to roles in medical robotics, image-guided intervention systems, and medical device software development.

Experience

Software Developer Intern
Netherlands
- Built an end-to-end Python pipeline covering medical image ingestion, 3D segmentation, surface mesh generation, and vascular centerline extraction with anatomical labelling- - Developed a Streamlit-based clinical-user interface enabling non-technical users to operate the full pipeline without engineering support - Implemented privacy-by-design data handling aligned with GDPR and medical software lifecycle standards (IEC 62304)

Software Developer – Robotic Navigation | Flux Robotics
•Developed an intra-operative navigation interface in Qt that provides clear guidance and supports safe device operation. •Enhanced and maintained pre-operative planning tools for vascular path segmentation and centreline planning on CT/CTA data (stability, UX, and workflow refinements). •Implemented image-to-system registration and re-alignment to keep guidance consistent throughout procedures. •Integrated planning, registration, and device control into a smooth, clinician-oriented workflow.

Biomedical Robotics & Control Systems Intern at Flux Robotics
Enschede, Overijssel, Netherlands
• Integrated a surgical robotic platform with a custom GUI for real-time control, status feedback, and safe errorrecovery. • Implemented intuitive 6-DOF teleoperation using a 3D controller(SpaceMouse ) for precise navigation and positioning. • Built workflow-driven screens for intra-operative target selection and guidance to improve usability and speed
