Serving as a Communications and Marketing Associate in the Development department of the Omaha Home for Boys. Responsibilities include assisting in the creation of short and long term communications strategic plans and brand development, coordinating external messaging with regard to community-based organizations, developing and maintaining relationships with various media sources, managing crisis communications, providing media training to youth and staff, working within a budget to update the visitors’ center, presentations for board members and upper management and writing, reviewing, creating and managing internal and external publications, social media, website text, brochures, press releases, grant proposals, fact sheets, photographs and event invitations.

Served as a Seventh Grade Summer School English Teacher at Parks Middle School. Responsible for teaching English with an emphasis on grammar and reading to students with reading levels ranging from first to ninth grade, setting an example of leadership to maintain a positive learning environment in spite of a lack of materials and textbooks, efficiently recorded and utilized test scores to ensure academic goals were met, and managed a literacy program resulting in an improvement of one reading grade level in a nine-week course.

Write, promote and co-host a weekly 40 question trivia, miraculously convincing people that it is fun to be assessed.

Responsibilities included coordinating the organization’s grant activity, specifically: assisting the development director and executive director in identifying prospective funders, drafting project summaries and funding proposals, tracking grant deliverables and budgets across upwards of 40 grants in four program areas, managing relationships with various foundation and government institutions with the help of Civi.CRM constituent relationship software, compiling reports and creating other written materials. Additional capacities included helping coworkers plan, promote, and organize media events, phone banks, rallies, signature drives, and lobby days at the Nebraska state legislature and other community institutions in line with Nebraska Appleseed’s commitment to taking a systemic approach to fighting for justice.
