About
I've spent my career answering one question: why do we do it that way?I started as a designer and creative director and turned that into a career of design thinking, solving business problems that always turn out to be human problems. I was one of the first interactive designers at P&G, then moved to Seattle and ended up in design at Amazon. From there I spent twelve years at Microsoft across MSN, Windows Live, and Windows, as a designer, PM, PM lead, and planning lead, always chasing the why behind the product. Along the way I got to work with some of the smartest people in the world on some of the biggest problems out there. Then I took a break to be a dad and support my wife, and that's where the next chapter started. About six years ago we had a simple idea: make biking more approachable. Take down the hurdles, make the gear easier to get and use, teach people how to ride safely, and remind them that we live in one of the best places on earth to ride. So we bought an old gas station, renovated it, and built THE LINE.THE LINE has grown from a bike shop into a true bike experience center. At our core we're a great shop: gravel, mountain, and e-bike sales, service, rentals, and demos, alongside a partner café and one of the best patios in the region. Then we extend that out to the trails themselves, with trailhead locations at Snoqualmie Point Park/Raging River, Tennant, and the new Bellevue Eastrail corridor. And because old habits die hard, we've applied that same design thinking to build solutions that enable new businesses too: managed bike fleets, software to run and de-risk them, reservation programs, and a new voucher system that's opening up creative partnerships across the region.I'm still working on big problems, outside of The Line. As Chairman of the Economic Development Commission for North Bend and a member of the advisory board for King County Search & Rescue, I focus on how we grow economic prosperity for everyone: developing ideas, programs, and investment in our communities, especially around outdoor recreation.Curiosity, exploration, learning, and building are what I do. The through-line has never changed: how do I make people's lives better, and share in the things I love? And of course bikes...
