Mike Sales

Mike is CEO of Nuveen’s Real Assets business. As a veteran industry investor, Mike brings 30 years of experience and expertise to the role. As leader of the business, he is accountable with the leaders of each business for setting and driving strategy across Nuveen Real Estate and Nuveen Real assets (which incorporates Nuveen’s impact and infrastructure teams and Nuveen’s real asset investment specialists - Westchester, Gresham, Greenwood and AGR). He ensures Nuveen delivers investment performance and world-class service that is in line with clients’ expectations. Career highlights include his instrumental position as part of the M&A team that merged the real estate platforms of Henderson Global Investors and TIAA in 2014, and the subsequent global growth of that platform as CEO from 2016 to 2020. Mike is a trusted public voice in discussing key issues and trends within the industry where he is well known for his integrity, results and performance orientation, collaboration and ability to form trusted partnerships with clients, employees and industry stakeholders, at all levels. Mike’s career began in 1989 as a development surveyor at Morgan Grenfell Laurie, before being appointed to head of the U.K. Investment Agency in 1993. His tenure with Nuveen dates back to 1994, when he joined the Henderson property business as an investment manager. Mike graduated with a B.A., honors, in Business Studies and an M.Phil. in Land Management. He is a member associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a member of the Investment Property Forum.
