Michael Wilson
Electrical and Instrumentation technician @ Central Marin Sanitation Agency
About
I spent 6 years in the Canadian Navy as a Marine Engineering Technician, I learned many systems to the point where I could recreate them on paper from memory while knowing all of the standard operation procedures and all of the emergency procedures. I also learned preventative and corrective maintenance and the theories that applied to the machinery I was using. I acted as the eyes and ears of the Chief Engineer and learned to give clear and concise reports on the status of the plant while also conducting hourly rounds and maintaining an efficient log. I learned about oil, fuel, and water testing to ensure our machinery was running healthy and efficiently. Troubleshooting quickly became my most used skill as our ship was older. I operated many types of machinery, some include High pressure and Low pressure Compressors, Diesel Engines, Centrifuges,Refrigeration units and desalination units. Many types of pumps and valves, controllers, and regulators. I later went to my QL5's Course which explained the theories in detail and also provided me with hands on experience with the Gas Turbine and Lathe. I learned to not only train my juniors, but also how to challenge myself and grow on my own as I wanted more knowledge and understanding of the machinery I was working with. I was and still am very proud of what I did and I always take pride in my work. I now work as a Maintenance Technologist at Benicias' Wastewater Treatment Plant. Since working with them I've learned a great deal in the electrical field and have gained a lot of useful knowledge and new troubleshooting skills.

Assistant Superintendent
Cedar Court Apartments
Dartmouth, NS, Canada
I worked as a maintenance technician at a apartment complex in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I ensured that the tenants complaints would turn into work orders and then be completed in a timely fashion. I performed turnover maintenance to ensure the suite was ready for a new lease agreement. I also maintained the grounds to keep curb appeal high. During this time I learned how to do basic wiring of light fixtures and outlets, flexible conduit running, drywall and painting, basic plumbing including drain snaking and camera, installation of finishes, door changes and lock changes, and troubleshooting appliances. I had maintained an already landscaped garden with limited irrigation experience.
