Before joining Spartent (www.spartentgs.com) as its CEO Mike was Executive Director for International Security with the Good Governance Group, Chief Advisor Global Security with Rio Tinto and a director with Control Risks Group. Based in London and Washington appointments with Control Risks included Director for Crisis and Security Management (2001-2004), Director for Iraq (2004-2006) and membership of its Executive Committee. Prior to joining Control Risks Mike was the regional security director for Anadarko, an “upstream” American independent oil company, responsible for the security of its operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and, from 1995 to 1997, was a consultant with the Defence Research Agency, advising on its Synthetic Theatre of War Program conducted jointly with the US Department of Defence. Mike was commissioned into the Royal Marines in 1970 and saw active service in Northern Ireland, the Falklands and Iraq. Mike is a graduate of the Royal Naval Staff College and a member of the Security Institute.
