Michael Daramola

I am an internationally recognized researcher with working experience at leading research organizations in: 1. France (IRCELyon), 2. The Netherlands (Delft University of Technology, UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, and Wageningen University & Research Centre), 3. Singapore (Hyflux), 4. South Africa (University of the Witwatersrand, Stellenbosch University, University of KwaZulu-Natal), 5. Ghana (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology), 6. Nigeria (Obafemi Awolowo University and Federal University of Agriculture). Currently, I am a Professor and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. The research experience and expertise, coupled with the international exposure acquired in these countries, have sharpened my professional growth and development as a researcher. My primary research is within chemical and bioprocess engineering, but with main activities in nanomaterials, waste treatment and waste valorization. Trained as an interdisciplinary researcher, I gathered extensive knowledge and successfully contributed to a wide range of research fields such as membrane and catalysis, nanoscience & nanotechnology, biotechnology/bioprocessing, separation science and technology, renewable & sustainable energy, green chemistry and production, CO2 capture and utilisation, etc. My work has earned me awards and recognitions such as: 7. Inclusion in the 2020 Stanford top 2% scientist in the World; 8. one of the nominees of 2019/2020 NSTF-South32 Awards in TW Kambule-NSTF Award: 9. Researcher category and in Engineering Research Capacity Development Award category; 10. Best visual presentation award at the 27th European Biomass and Exhibition Conference, EUBCE2019, 27‒30 May, 2019, Lisbon, Portugal. The quality of my work has earned me more national and international visibility to contribute to the development of skills and human capacity in my research as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of ACS Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering (https://pubs.acs.org/page/ascecg/editors.html); Managing Guest Editor of Materials Today Proceedings; Associate Editor of Chemical Engineering Communications (2016-2019). • I am a Chartered Chemical Engineer (C.Eng.) with the Engineering Council of UK; • A COREN-registered Engineer with the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria; • A C-rated researcher by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa.
