About
Mellissa Fisher’s practice combines art with microbiology; her interests lie in the interrelationships between illustration, sculpture and living organisms. Mellissa’s research explores the connections between nature and the self, posing questions to an audience regarding their relationship with their bodies as well as their link to nature. Mellissa’s practice is one of interdisciplinary enquiry. Initially developing new agar techniques to create bacterial sculptures of her own body, her work is now investigating the field of mycology, growing mushrooms on sculptures of the human form. The shared intention of all her work is to understand our bodies as ecosystems, landscapes populated by constantly growing and evolving organisms. Mellissa also works part time in education, running workshops at festivals, working in schools and universities as a Workshop Leader or Teaching Assistant.
