I am a current personal support worker for a 14 year old student who has Down syndrome and spectrum disorders. While working one on one, we create a schedule for each visit to follow for my time with him. Some areas that we include on the schedule are playing sports involving hand and eye coordination such as basketball, softball, bowling, walking etc. We practice coloring with multiple colors and staying within the lines, practice reading aloud or rehearse lines or songs for a play, assist in public outings such as the library, park and select games that help strengthen math, visual and general understandings. Overall, I manage the student's behavior when overstimulated to assist in keeping on task toward our set schedule each visit.
