During this opportunity, I had the privilege of serving and being mentored by Chong Kim, Sylvia Lee, and Julie Kert in their former practice - Law Offices of Kim & Kert Judge Chong Kim is the first Korean American woman to be sworn in as a judge in the state of Georgia. In addition, Judge Kim is a lecturer at the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech. Sylvia Lee has her own legal practice at Sylvia Lee, Esquire. Attorney Lee is a former prosecutor for the City of Atlanta. Attorney Julie Kert is a partner at her current practice at Yeargan and Kert, LLC. Attorney Kert is a former prosecutor for the City of Atlanta. These three incredible women have been role models for me in how I engage in my life to approach policies and issues with discernment, confidentially, and boldness to challenge broken systems to pursue justice for issues that impact the most vulnerable individuals. Due to the nature of their practice being Criminal Defense Law, I witnessed how they used their network, influence, and always had a vision to support individuals that were not U.S. citizens that were facing serious crimes due to the lack of understanding of the particular law of the Georgia or Federal Laws that were broken. Each of these women were professional, tough when necessary, and handled every matter with discretion due to the nature of the sensitivity of the crime. They are my role models in how I engage in my life and my posture of how I serve the global community as they embrace me with open arms in my first official job after my university studies. I was truly honored to serve and support their former practice. It is an experience that I truly treasured as they each cared for me and entrusted me to support their work to care for those without knowledge and access for an opportunity for restorative justice.
