Megan Jasper

I have worked at Sub Pop for years and have had many jobs along the way. I began as an intern in 1989 and was quickly hired as the label's receptionist, where I monitored phone and foot traffic, wrote newsletters and managed whatever else was needed. Shortly after I sold records to independent record stores in the US and managed Sub Pop's payroll system. I was laid off in 1991 and spent a year touring and selling merch for Dinosaur Jr. and helping a friend set up his merch company. I opened accounts for him in the US and managed his direct sales. Caroline Distribution hired me in 1992 as their NW Sales Rep and moved to ADA in 1993, when the company first began. I spent 5 year's as ADA's NW sales rep and I loved every minute of it but I was craving a different experience and wanted to work more closely with artists. I returned to Sub Pop in 1998 as the label's Senior Project Manager (managing marketing and sales), soon was promoted to General Manager (managing most of the employees and projects), then to Executive VP (managing the company and helping to develop new business), and now CEO (overseeing all aspects of the company). I have also had the good fortune to work on many boards and commissions over the years: SCBWI (Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators, 3 years) The Service Board (Teen mentoring program, 10 years of volunteer work as well as being on BOD) The Vera Project (Youth led all ages music venue. I was on the BOD and served as Co-Chair, 6 years) Seattle Music Commission (Mayoral appointee, 7 years) KEXP (BOD, currently serving as Board Chair, 6 years) Merlin (Board Advisor, 1 year) I also served on city task forces to abolish Seattle's Teen Dance Ordinance (prohibiting young people from experiencing live music), another to study Commercial Affordability (ensuring that independent businesses can survive in a rapidly changing city), and one more to help select the city's new partner for the renovation of Key Arena.
