Megan Cowart

I’ve always been interested in how software can solve real problems and support the people who rely on it. That interest led me to study Computer Science with a minor in Psychology at Cornell University, where I built a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and programming, while gaining perspective on how technical systems affect user experience in practice. Through coursework and projects, I gained experience working with languages such as Java, Python, and C++. I’ve spent a lot of time debugging complex systems, handling imperfect data, and thinking carefully about reliability and correctness. I’m especially drawn to problems where software needs to work outside of ideal conditions and deliver results people can actually use. Two projects that shaped my approach were a real-time multiplayer game and an AI wine label reader. On the game project, I worked in C++ on backend logic and communication between players, collaborating with a larger team to keep systems stable and responsive. On the AI project, I built an end-to-end Python pipeline that handled noisy OCR data and applied decision-tree models to produce clear, explainable outputs. Both experiences helped me understand how design choices impact performance, usability, and trust. I work best in collaborative environments where ideas are shared openly and problems are solved together. Outside of technical work, serving as President of a tap dance troupe with more than 20 members strengthened my communication and organization skills, which I bring into team-based technical work as well. I’m currently seeking an entry-level software engineering role where I can continue building my technical skills, contribute to reliable, user-focused systems, and grow alongside a collaborative team.
