young professional
brac
Right after completing my M.S.S. I joined BRAC in November 2008 as Young Professional. BRAC takes initiatives to promote a cadre service group which is dedicated to train excellent managers and leaders for the organization. I got into this program which directly relates to my academic background. I, along with 20 other Young Professionals, underwent a one year intensive training on management and leadership in NGO and development sector. During our training period, we were placed at grassroots level for field operation for six months and spent six months at class room sessions. This training offered me on-hand experiences of the rural Bangladesh and also familiarized me with gendered dynamics of social hierarchies that prevail in such areas. For example, during my field placement, I assisted destitute women in getting government’s development subsidies, incentives and other financial benefits.

BRAC is a development success story, spreading solutions born in Bangladesh to 10 other countries around the world – a global leader in creating opportunity for the world's poor. What started out as a limited relief operation in 1972 in a remote village of Bangladesh has turned into the largest development organisation in the world. Organising the poor using communities' own human and material resources, BRAC (formerly Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) catalyses lasting change, creating an ecosystem in which the poor have the chance to seize control of their own lives. We do this with a holistic development approach geared toward inclusion, using tools like microfinance, education, healthcare, legal services, community empowerment and more. Our work now touches the lives of an estimated 126 million people, with staff and BRAC-trained entrepreneurs numbering in the hundreds of thousands, a global movement bringing change to 11 countries in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.
