As a Library Assistant at Waterloo Public Library I provide excellent reference, reader’s advisory, and service for customers of all ages. I instruct and assist customers in the use of all forms of library technology and troubleshoot technology issues. Promote library services and programs to all customers. I perform a wide variety of tasks including: Summer Reading Club, registering new patrons, accepting fines, problem solving damaged/lost material, closing procedures, processing holds, audio/visual snags, claims returned, explain and enforce library policies and procedures, and introduce customers to new and emerging information tools and technological resources.

At Pathways Education Services I delivered effective academic and pre-employment programs to adults with barriers to employment; Essential Skills, Academic Upgrading, ESL, Job Search, and Computer skills training.

I coached primary students participating in a 10-week “Strong Start” program; intensive one-to-one tutoring to assist in the development of early literacy skills.

In a grade four class I planned, taught and assessed students in Science, (a sound unit). I also taught a series of Mathematics lessons involving perimeter. I taught two Visual Arts lessons and took responsibility for read alouds during the literacy block. I was involved in coaching the junior volleyball club.

Develops and delivers computer training related programs and resource materials for the public, as well as train-the trainer programs for Region of Waterloo Library staff.

Responsible for coaching new and existing team members so they feel comfortable and confident when engaging with customers and performing the skills required for their role.

Custom Closet-designer: can design Schulte Freedom Rail closets using Strong Works Cad Software, and explain installation procedures. Uncovered the needs of customers and communicate promotions through product demonstrations and personal testimony. Enjoyed contributing to a team effort and creating a positive working environment; recognized as an individual who takes initiative and “gets the job done.”

* As a Sales Associate at Bath and Body Works, I utilized Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) such as conversion, average dollar sales and units per transaction to progress towards daily sales targets. * I was able to uncover the needs of customers and communicate promotions through product demonstrations and personal testimony.

I was responsible for the planning and delivery of a Persuasive Writing unit in English. I taught this unit to two grade eight classes. I incorporated the SMART board as an engaging instructional strategy. I used TV commercial analysis as part of my Media Literacy unit to draw student interest. In addition, I taught a Graphing unit in Math. This involved Translations, Reflections and Rotations. I planned taught and assessed the Patterning and Algebra strand for two grade seven classes. I also taught several English lessons, focusing on conflicts in narrative writing.

* As a Senior Library Assistant I practiced pro-active reference. I communicate effectively with customers asking open-ended questions and actively listening throughout the reference interview. I apply search strategies and achieve results. * I cheerfully respond to requests for information in person, over the telephone and via electronic format using print and electronic resources. * I instruct the public in the use of the library catalogue and electronic collections such as online databases, ebook and audiobook access.
