* Completed one year training in plant operations at the world's largest Fluidized catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) * Worked in parallel shifts with field operator, shift field engineer and Panel Engineer, subsequently taking independent charge as Shift Field Engineer for a month * Learned work permit system, working in shifts, handling and taking over of plant equipment, SOP's, PSM elements, HSE policies, Life protection rules, operational discipline etc. * Involved in Emergency shutdown of FCC and contributed towards safe shutdown and startup of unit

* Intern - Among the 2 students selected by Prof. H. Scott Fogler from India for the internship Reviewing of e-modules and Creative Problem Solving * Led a team of 20 students for critical review of reaction engineering e-modules by Prof. John Falconer * Used Gantt & Deployment charts to streamline activities finishing 20 days ahead of timeline; suggestions incorporated in modules * Used Mathematica to create interactive charts for the book Essentials of Chemical Reaction Engineering * Conducted creative and extensive brainstorming sessions to develop solution manual for the third edition of the book, Strategies for Creative Problem Solving

* Topic: Assessment of Penetrometry technique for measuring the yield stress of muds and granular pastes * Developed a first ever novel technique for measuring yield stress instead of the conventional rheometry technique * Benefits of the proposed technique over conventional rheometry: five times more cost effective, can be used in situ, greater accuracy as it prevents jamming or fracture of materials * Achieved 100% validation of results on comparison with data obtained from rheometry * Published a paper based on my research in the Journal of Applied Rheology

* Studied in depth the working and operating principles of different units in the refinery * Gained an experience on the importance of safety and hazard management * Studied the control philosophies used in the crude unit

* Analyze process improvement opportunities for the existing crude unit by closely monitoring the Crude Unit’s performance and provide technical support for review of major Management of Changes (MOCs). * Participate in shutdown activities and ensure implementation of all proposed modifications within stipulated time period and carry out troubleshooting of key issues like heater tubes bowing, tray fouling etc * Assess the post shutdown performance and ensure that it meets the expected performance level * Share the learnings by publishing internal as well as external articles
