Mattia Prandi

Developing project SAPIENS by optimizing the Berkeley open-source humanoid platform through Reinforcement Learning. I specialize in locomotion control and sim-to-real transfer to bridge the gap between physics simulation and real-world hardware performance.

Handled the MoveIt2-based trajectory planning for a 6-DoF robotic arm on a rover designed for the European Rover Challenge (ERC).

Worked in the powertrain division of the boat: I take care of the control of the on-board systems and on the propulsion of the vehicle. In particular, I worked the following projects: • Custom battery pack BMS: I modified the diagram and designed the PCB for battery management, with subsequent modification of the firmware. • ECU firmware update: I have implemented new functions to manage new devices. • Power up system: I took care of the PCB, 3D drawing and wiring of the system to turn on the vehicle's low-power electronics. • 3D printing management: I was entrusted with the task of finding suitable materials for each part of the vehicle to maintain the right ratio between mechanical, thermal resistance and weight. I was also busy managing 3D prints and buying a new 3D printer that would allow us to make large prints in a few time with more materials. • Testing on the powertrain system: during development, we tested the new devices to ensure their integrity and the complete system. I actively participated in pre-race testing sessions, analyzed telemetry data, and made adjustments to the powertrain system based on test results. I joined the team at the Yacht Club de Monaco to take part in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. I was responsible for telemetry analysis, pre-technical inspection checks, and final system refinements in preparation for the race.

Completed a hands-on school internship focused on wiring electrical panels for end-of-line and palletizing automation systems. Responsibilities included wiring Fanuc robots and assembling complete electrical systems on palletizers

Worked on various construction sites and industrial facilities, handling both residential fault repairs and industrial electrical installations. Activities included assembling electrical panels, performing maintenance and repairs on civil systems, and working on ceramic production lines. This experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of electrical safety, site operations, and how to execute installations according to professional standards.

Thesis: Trajectory Control for Mobile Robots under Task Hierarchy and Joints Constraints

Thanks to the AlmaTong project, I had the opportunity to study the second year of my bachelor career in Shanghai. This experience added many values and ideas to my cultural baggage, I was lucky enough to live in a smart city and come into contact with the latest technologies on a daily basis. I also had the opportunity to confront people who are very different from me culturally and to learn as many things as possible from their lives and experiences.
