Pre-development of a CFD model to predict the pitch-heave motion and drag force of a surfaced underwater vehicle. - The overall research project tackles the following question: What is the seakeeping response of a surfaced underwater vehicle in waves? Firstly, a literature review is conducted to understand the research project motivations and purposes. Both EFD and CFD results are used to answer the question. - Assistance is provided in the development and undertaking of an experimental programme in the Australian Maritime College (AMC) towing tank. EFD results are used to validate the CFD model developed. - The CFD model set up is a complexed problem divided into different steps to enhance knowledge around CFD computations. It first involves static simulations on underwater vehicles (UV) at deep water depth and at the surface. It is then followed by a capability study on Moving Deforming Mesh (MDM). These preliminary studies lead to the pre-development of the CFD model. CFD code: ANSYS Fluent
