Matthias Winkler

Matthias Winkler is a non binary, post-avant-garde footwear brand based in Berlin. All shoes are handcrafted, using traditional techniques and dormant resources – such as machinery, leather garments and dead stock, making the production process sustainable. Wanting to breach the fast driven fashion, cycle Matthias Winkler presents a single collection a year. This allows for the creation of unique, high quality objects. Growing up in Austria in a family of hunters Matthias Winkler was surrounded by garments and leather goods that were long-lasting and of high craftsmanship. He wanted to translate these qualities into an artistic visual language of tomorrow, using the same artistry, enhancing the unity of wearer and nature. The dichotomy of his homeland mountains and Berlin's complex urban architecture with its stories and what they evoke, determine Matthias Winkler’s distinctive design language. Matthias Winkler strives at growing long term relationships with independent stores, distributors and clients and at continuously refining the ties between shoes and their wearers.
