Research internship in developmental biology at the Pepin Lab, combined with clinical shadowing in pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and gender-affirming surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. • Basic science research in developmental biology under the supervision of Patricia K. Donahoe and David Pepin • Involvement in bench research focused on developmental pathways relevant to sexual development and congenital conditions • Clinical shadowing in pediatric surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and gender-affirming surgery at a tertiary academic medical center • Exposure to multidisciplinary surgical care, clinical decision-making, and academic surgery workflow

During the months of June and July 2024 I had the great opportunity to join the Breast Surgery Unit at San Raffaele Hospital for an elective internship. This experience has given me invaluable theoretical and hands-on training in the diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutical approach to breast cancer, with a particular focus on post-oncologic reconstructive surgery. Thanks to this experience I could also continue to nourish my great interest in gender medicine and surgery.

I attended the Department of Plastic Surgery of Amsterdam UMC as a student research and clinical intern, under the supervision of Tim van de Grift, MD,PhD. My main focus was genital gender-affirming surgery in non binary and gender-queer individuals.

The Mazzotti Anatomy Conference allowed my to deepen my knowledge of human anatomy by cadaveric dissection and study on human bodies. Together with this, it also represented an incredible insight in the US healthcare and University systems for I have been exposed to several experiences in these settings during my period there. I also had the chance of training some surgical skills on cadavers and acquiring new ones.
