Matt Clarey

Over the course of my 25-year career with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, I served in a variety of roles, including wildlife officer, hunter education coordinator, boating safety coordinator, law enforcement trainer, and ultimately R3 coordinator and Assistant Chief overseeing a division of 17 employees. Regardless of the position or title, the most rewarding aspect of my work was always the people I worked alongside and served. Since retiring from state service, I have accepted a role that offers greater personal flexibility while allowing me to remain part of a team that is genuinely committed and collaborative. I value being part of an organization where people are motivated to make things happen because they want to—not because they have to. Through this experience, I’ve learned that it’s never too late to change paths, and that the status quo evolves as we do. Continue putting your goals and intentions forward, and they will return to you when the timing is right.
