About
I am a highly creative, well organized, self motivated industrial designer with a bent toward practical, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally responsible solutions to design problems. Throughout my varied career I have sought to challenge myself technically, intellectually, and aesthetically. This has resulted in providing me with a broad exposure to a variety of industries, manufacturing processes, and people. My professional experience ranges from technical aircraft design to building adobe homes. In addition to my technical skills I am a good manager capable of inspiring those whom I work with to excel. I have served on various public boards and planning committees, and currently with the Boy Scouts of America. I enjoy the interactions I have in these organizations. Although I work well with people, a large part of my career I have worked in my home office isolated from my peers. I have highly developed communication skills including writing and using a variety of software based tools.

mechanical designer
james river handicup
James River hired me as a consultant to improve their cup molding equipment which was prone to excessive maintenance. By strengthening the structure, modifying the plumbing systems, changing the mold base material, and refining the electrical control systems we were able to significantly reduce machine down time. Another project for James River was designing and prototyping a case packing machine. I used photo sensors, pneumatics, conveyors, and timing controls to provide an alternative to the hand packing of the fragile cups in their shipping boxes. This machine successfully reduced the lifting and bending intensive tasks previously performed by factory workers.

senior industrial designer
theta resources
Resources I worked as a senior design project leader carrying client projects from concept through prototype. The process included becoming intimately familiar with the clients needs and goals, then presenting potential solutions using sketches and models. Detailed renderings and models were produced to further prove aesthetics and human factors. As the designs matured drawings for engineering analysis and manufacturing were generated and finally prototyped. In addition to design and project management I was also responsible for implementation of CAD (Unigraphics) into the design process at Theta. This included evaluating and specifying the system and training the staff of industrial designers, mechanical engineers, and draftsmen to use it effectively.

I design and monitor the fabrication of electrical equipment used in underground mining, including power centers, switch gear, and distribution boxes. The equipment is subject to harsh underground mining conditions yet contains highly sophisticated electronic monitoring, relaying, and control devices. Design considerations include functionality, durability, maneuverability, maintenance, safety, and cost. The equipment is primarily custom fabricated from sheet metal and structural steel to meet customer requirements and MSHA regulations. I use Autocad Inventor as my primary design tool, providing animated 3D visualization for marketing purposes, accurate 3D models for digital prototyping, and integrated data for CAM and 2D fabrication drawings.

intuitive design
I work with clients through all phases of design and product development, including research, ideation, modeling, presentation, component sourcing and fabrication drawings. I have designed products for the medical industry, manufacturing, mining, and architectural industries. My primary design tool is Solidworks, In addition to design, I have designed and built homes using alternative construction materials, including adobe, pressed block, SIP, and ICU

industrial designer
liberty aerospace, inc.
I was primarily responsible for designing the instrument panel and integrating various configurations of instrument options. This included working with and designing composite and sheet metal components, wiring harnesses and wire routing, ventilation and cooling systems, fitting and adapting OEM instruments and radios. In addition to the instrument panel I worked extensively with all aspects of fitting the electrical components throughout the aircraft. As need arose I also participated in the design and documentation of other mechanical components including landing gear, wing tips, and control surface rigging. The aircraft was designed using Solidworks. Documentation met ANSI Y14.5 standards and had to stand up to rigorous FAA auditing and document control standards.
