I qualified with a BA in Applied Social Studies in Social Care from the Institute of Technology, Tralee, Co Kerry in 2012 where I proudly received the Award for Academic Excellence from 'Social Care Ireland' in the final year of my degree. Having been successful in the academic aspect of social care, it is within my professional practice that I demonstrate the ability and willingness to be open to change, and the ability to learn and adapt in fluid situations. I work well of my own initiative however, using excellent communication skills I contribute equally well as part of a team. Currently I work as a Social Care Practitioner in a Residential setting with Kerry Parent's and Friends Association. This involves supporting adults with an intellectual disability within a therapeutic milieu.

This volunteer work involved several weeks of training with the KDYS. It required meeting with a young person(s) in the Listowel Community one day weekly as a mentor. This involved offering support and guidance in a confidential manner to particular young people who had been recommended to participate, on a voluntary basis. It also involved writing up a detailed report at the end of each session and addressing any outstanding concerns that were discussed in the course of our meeting.
