Martin Lopez – Entrepreneur | Herbal Industry Leader | Conservation Advocate For over 25 years, I have pursued my passion for blending business expertise with cultural heritage. My journey began with my mother’s deep belief in traditional Hispanic healing practices—a commitment that inspired me to transform a small East Los Angeles herb shop into a thriving enterprise. In 2006, after earning my MBA from Loyola Marymount University, I became majority partner and President of Herbs of Mexico, a company with over 65 years of history in herbal health. Under my leadership, Herbs of Mexico has grown beyond retail into HOM Packing, our small-batch nutraceutical manufacturing division. HOM Packing helps small businesses, herbalists, and practitioners bring their visions to life with custom formulations, encapsulation, private labeling, and fulfillment services—all without the burden of large minimum orders. My mission is to make high-quality herbal products accessible and affordable, while maintaining strict quality and compliance standards. Beyond business growth, I have served as Treasurer of the Cathedral High School Alumni Association, supporting education and community engagement. I’ve worked as an interim professor at LMU, guiding Executive MBA projects, and mentored minority-owned businesses to strengthen their strategies and profiles. These experiences have shaped my commitment to helping others succeed and to building opportunities for underserved communities. Sustainability drives my long-term vision. I am deeply concerned about the overharvesting of key botanicals like Yerba Mansa. To protect these resources, I grow Yerba Mansa myself and plan to launch initiatives with like-minded partners focused on conservation, ethical sourcing, and responsible cultivation. I believe in staying humble to what Mother Earth provides and ensuring traditional remedies coexist with modern science for generations to come. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA and an MBA from Loyola Marymount University. My goal is clear: to empower people to achieve their dreams—whether through creating their own herbal product line, advancing education, or leading efforts in sustainability—while building a stronger, more ethical future for the herbal industry.

Martin is currently the managing partner of this 64 year old Hispanic health and wellness retail company, which is based in East Los Angeles. Martin has long been involved with Herbs of Mexico as a customer; an employee; and now as its President/CEO. He attributed his deep interest in the Company from his mother’s weekly visits to the “Herb Store.” During his childhood, she would make this hour long cross-town trip on public transportation with Martin (and sister) in tow. Later on in his life, he would have several stints consulting and working for the small store. Martin became majority partner of Herbs of Mexico in 2006.
