Captured and analysed requirements for pharmacy applications changes/fixes, and new data warehouse reports. Internal sign-off authority acting as gate to prevent privacy incidents by code review. Managed concurrent projects through entire life cycle. Coordinated internal and offshore developer groups. Wrote detailed HL7 mapping specifications for an in-house .NET middleware project integrating TELUS Kroll pharmacy software with PointClickCare EMRs. Reverse engineered HL7 messages to define message workflows hidden in the Kroll “black box.”

• Manual testing, code review, and unit test review/creation (JUnit), for an HL7 message processing application (a Java integration with Mirth.) • Manual testing a REST API integrating the functions of five Electronic Medical Record (EMR) applications. • Successfully negotiated the delivery of an automated test suite so as to minimise rework. This required creation of explanatory material (a functional decomposition) to convince the business owners that this delay greatly improved overall efficiency of the effort. • Refactored a poorly scaling Java class structure into the Factory pattern to guide developers in refactoring related Java classes. By adopting this approach the developers were enabled to write better object oriented code. • Overhauled the defect reporting and triage process of the newly enlarged Lab team following a privacy incident. New process restricted exposure of PHI to team members that needed to see it to debug the defect. • Introduced UML Sequence Diagrams to the team as a way of identifying testable blocks of implementation for a change that superficially could only be tested when the Epic had completed.

• Owned the Electronic Medical Record API, a REST API integrating the data and functions of five Electronic Medical Record (EMR) applications. • Coordinated Third Party Partners (TPP) during their conformance efforts, created the test data necessary to challenge the implementation thoroughly, and supported TPP developers in their creation of test cases (HTTP requests to our API, optional JSON bodies.)

• Three direct reports, six matrix reports, and leadership of User Acceptance Testing teams from the business area. • Mentored QA Analysts to ensure correct execution of Test Plan, correct documentation of defects/changes in JIRA, and compliance with standards. • Created Test Strategy documentation for stakeholder sign-off, created Test Plans incorporating mitigation strategies for any identified risks (prioritized by impact and stakeholder investment.) • Coordinated system operators through their UAT of a data submission application, creating novel documentation to support testing of the application's configuration, and walked operators through the test cases to ensure 100% coverage.

• Defined all aspects of the merge of two operational data stores (The Discharge Abstract Database, and National Ambulatory Care Reporting System) into a single reporting schema to drive MicroStrategy dashboards. • Expertise in Business Rule codification, and subsequent Source/Target schema mapping. • Conversion of Metrics from mathematical notation into a specification. • Used analytical and writing experience to create a series of natural language scenarios that developers and QAs could use as an intuition to understand a very complex, multi data sourced Length of Stay indicator. • Designed and documented a novel method for the specification and implementation of clinical indicators, greatly reducing the time required to develop a new or modify an existing indicator. • Collaborated with Senior Legal Counsel and privacy attorneys. • Documented PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act) in Business Process Model and Notation format to support implementation of a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) Readiness tool that guided users through creating their PIA. By providing users with this guidance, their submissions were more accurate and complete before requesting review by the privacy attorneys, making more efficient use of their time.

• Seconded in to rescue a troubled business intelligence/data mart project by providing structure to the specifications, and removed obstacles from the former lead BA to allow them to contribute to the effort. • Used analytical and writing experience to author a series of natural language scenarios that developers and QAs could use as an intuition to understand a very complex, multi data sourced Day Surgery Length of Stay (LOS) indicator. • Dual experience in advanced data analyses, and in system modelling and application development, allowed for fluent communications with all stakeholders during CIHI's data warehousing and business intelligence programs.

• Owned the Service Recipient Index, an index of all consistently uniquely identifiable patients and their records from NACRS, DAD, HMDB, CORR, CJRR. Used to identify patient cohorts for analytical studies. • Captured data holding specific requirements and created annual change cycle documentation for review and sign-off. Coordinated the five data holding’s UAT teams.

• Won the CEO Team of the Year award for refactoring a data collection, validation, and reporting application to the requirements of Cancer Care Ontario and the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians. • Presented at the CAEP-CEDIS working group conference and gained their approval to use a Patient Reason For Visit picklist of their design. Invited to present at the conference again the following year. • Designed/created new documentation to capture ED Wait Time report specifications for the Microstrategy BI platform. Incorporated requirements from our partner and project stakeholder, Cancer Care Ontario. The complete suite of reports was delivered on time and to scope. • Created slide decks and other material to support the regular NACRS annual change cycle process, representing the competing requirements gathered from provincial ministerial representatives, and the proposed solutions for their approval.

• Postdoctoral position in bacterial population genetics. • Collaborated with project scientists and Principal Investigators to develop novel analytical and visualization stand alone applications (Java) to support the interpretation of molecular genetics data. • Modeled, designed and implemented a web enabled database to capture molecular data from a worldwide community of healthcare laboratories. • Developed and implemented online tools to support the community's analysis of these data. • Primary author of, and contributor, to peer reviewed publications, posters and abstracts.
