Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Masterstudiums sollen zusätzlich zu den im Bachelorstudium erworbenen Qualifikationen in der Lage sein, auch komplexe Softwareentwicklungsprojekte zu leiten, neuartige Problemlösungen zu erarbeiten und zielgerichtet Konzepte, Methoden und Werkzeuge der Informatik oder eines ihrer Anwendungsgebiete weiterzuentwickeln. Sie sind Expertinnen und Experten in ihrem Fachgebiet mit breitem Informatik-Hintergrund. Sie zeichnen sich durch Selbständigkeit und hohe Problemlösungskompetenz aus. Sie sind in besonderem Maße in der Lage, sich auf technische Paradigmenwechsel einzustellen. Darüber hinaus können Absolventinnen und Absolventen des Masterstudiums nach drei Jahren einschlägiger Praxis und Ablegung der Ziviltechnikerprüfung als Ingenieurkonsulentinnen bzw. Ingenieurkonsulenten für Informatik tätig sein.

Schwerpunkt des Informatik-Bachelorstudiums an der Universität Klagenfurt ist die Ange-wandte Informatik. Ziel ist die Befähigung der Absolventinnen und Absolventen zur qualita-tiv hochwertigen Entwicklung von computerunterstützten Problemlösungen, zum effizien-ten und effektiven Management des Problemlösungsprozesses sowie zur Gestaltung des nutzbringenden Einsatzes von Lösungen, basierend auf Methoden und Techniken der Infor-matik (Problemlösungskompetenz). Dies erfordert vor allem fundierte Kenntnisse und Fä-higkeiten im Fachgebiet der Informatik und Grundkenntnisse von wirtschaftlichen Zusam-menhängen, aber auch profundes Wissen über mögliche Anwendungsfelder. Softwaresys-teme werden in der Informatik in den meisten Fällen in Organisationen erarbeitet und in soziale Systeme eingebettet. Zusätzlich sind daher Methoden-, Sozial- und Individualkom-petenzen für erfolgreiche Realisierung, Einführung und gewinnbringenden Einsatz von In-formatiksystemen notwendig.
