Software Team Technical Lead for Knee Applications on CORI

Responsible for managing the intellectual property of all Omnicell business units. Concurrently leading downstream support (help desk, field service, robot installation) team readiness for new XR2 hospital central pharmacy robotic system. Accomplishments: • Organized and implemented FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System) for new XR2 hospital pharmacy robotic system. Led team of engineers through dozens of Root Cause Analysis investigations. • Identified and developed new tools for downstream support team to improve transfer of product knowledge. This has enabled the teams to minimize the learning curve associated with a complex automated system and maximize their efficiency and effectiveness. • Organized and implemented company-wide intellectual property management process across all business units. Achieved participation from 9 different locations in 5 countries in 2017 and 2018. Initiated program to integrate Intellectual Property Strategy into the company-wide product development process.

Responsible for leading all software development resources within the Engineering Department. Also responsible for leading several hospital central pharmacy automation projects. Concurrently served as company-wide Intellectual Property Manager since 2008 generating over 200 intellectual property disclosures leading to over 80 patent applications and patents. Accomplishments: • Instituted Agile development process for improved management of control software team’s efforts. Established written Software Development and Software Project Management processes for the Engineering Control Software Development group. • Led the successful development of a new control cabinet and control software for the company’s flagship ROBOT-Rx hospital central pharmacy robot product to mitigate continued component and software obsolescence. Supported the rollout of the new control cabinet to over 100 hospital pharmacy robots. Worked with the downstream support teams to significantly reduce robot installation time, improve robot reliability, and eliminate mistakes by field service personnel. • Actively participated in the Enterprise Project Management initiative to improve the company’s project management practices. • Helped company to meet all Intellectual Property goals for disclosures and applications for the past 10 years. • Primary architect of the company’s robot control platform that has since been used successfully on three robot products and one prototype robot system. Successfully guided control software team through PROmanager-Rx hospital central pharmacy robot control software development from concept to GA for which project team received McKesson’s TechStar Award for Innovation in 2010. • Successfully designed and guided control software team through the development of an interface between the legacy ROBOT-Rx system and PowerStrip that minimized development effort and technical risk.

Provided software consulting services to leading medical equipment manufacturers. Responsible for establishing and maintaining customer relationships. Designed and developed robot control software and SQL database interface software for next generation retail pharmacy robot for McKesson Automation (now Omnicell). Designed embedded software and developed associated documentation for full design cycle of several FDA-regulated medical products (including safety-critical modules) for 2003 Malcolm Baldrige award winner Medrad, Inc (now Bayer HealthCare).

Responsible for planning and implementation of new product development projects. Responsible for meeting project schedules and budgets and reporting project status each quarter to Senior Staff. Responsible for leading annual R&D planning process for entire organization. Accomplishments: • Developed business plans for two development projects for an entirely new market. One was for a $4 million development project with a projected annual revenue of $60 million. • Led five development projects of various sizes in 1999: incl. Automated Light Metro System Concept Development, Electric Propulsion System for Transit Buses, and Transit Bus Diagnostic Monitoring System. Total 1999 budget for these projects $1.5 million. Led requirements definition and procurement phases of $1.2 million New Central Control System project in 2000. • Led the annual R&D planning process for the years 2000 and 2001. • Acted as Lead Project Software Engineer for Seattle-Tacoma Airport People Mover System Rehab project while also supporting the Software Process Improvement (SPI) Program. SPI activities included the development and implementation of policies, processes, procedures, guidelines, and templates for Key Process Areas: Requirements Management, Software Project Planning, and Software Project Tracking and Oversight.

Responsible for leading the assigned engineering resources through the design, procurement, factory testing, and field testing phases of multiple, concurrent Automated People Mover projects for airports in Atlanta, Denver, Rome, Stansted (London), and Tampa. Responsible for meeting project budgets and schedules and for serving as the key technical interface with customers, suppliers, and internal company management. All projects were completed on schedule and under budget. The Rome project was a $27 million new installation at the Leonardo da Vinci airport. Served as primary technical contact with Italian Ministry of Transportation and with various contractors including the Architectural Design, Communication System Design & Installation, Electrical Installation, Mechanical Installation, and Civil Installation.

Responsible for the administration and financial control of multiple, concurrent R&D projects. Established an improved process for R&D program planning for the organization and led the R&D program planning process. Instituted Earned Value Analysis-based reporting for all projects. Other activities included developing a company-wide technology strategy, and improving the company's strategic development capabilities. Prepared the company’s annual R&D budgets. Led the R&D group for four months while the Director of R&D was unable to work for health reasons.

Responsible for leading a team of electrical engineers through the development of a new Vehicle Automatic Train Control system for the Frankfurt Airport in Germany. The project required significant new design work to satisfy the German certification agency. Completed the design, testing, and production of the equipment on-time despite an aggressive schedule and a late start.

Member of a software development team developing a new generation propulsion system for the New York City Transit Authority. Responsibilities included the development of the propulsion inverter embedded control software.
