In 2015, I was tired and frustrated that I couldn't help in a meaningful way as I watched and read about the largest global migration (which continues) since the end of the Second World War. I came together with a group of teachers and parents at my childrens' school to sponsor a refugee family of five from Syria to come to Canada. The experience was one of the most intense of my life....and continues to be. The family arrived in Canada in September 2017. They are integrating well into life in Canada, but it has been an experience full of ups and downs, and we have gone through much of this with them. I have learned a lot from them and from this experience and I will continue to work with them even as they gain greater independence.
