“Underlying mechanisms and potential early biomarkers of spontaneous neurological recovery after ischemic stroke” Prof, G. Kwakkel, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine , VUmc Amsterdam. Combination of three systematic reviews in order to search for evidence that the recovery of the penumbra, alleviation of diaschisis and blood-brain barrier disruption are processes involved in spontaneous neurological recovery after stroke. Evaluate their potential as early biomarkers of recovery during first months after stroke.

“First insights into proteomics of primary-age related tauopathy (PART)” Dr. J. Hoozemans, Neuropathology Department, VUmc Amsterdam. Aim was to identify differences in tau pathology, protein levels and transmission properties of tau aggregates of PART hypocampal tissue compared to Alzheimer ́s Disease. Used a new cell-level proteomic approach based on Laser Capture Microdissection and mass-spectrometry analysis, combined with immunohistochemistry, cell culture and western blot analysis. Post-mortem brain tissue samples were supplied by the Netherlands Brain Bank.
