I am so grateful to be a current undergraduate research assistant studying language development in infants and young children at Michigan State University, specifically relating to the neuro-cognitive mechanisms underlying speech prosody (pitch, timing, rhythm, and loudness of speech). One of the many goals of this lab is to better understand the mechanisms underlying normal and disordered speech perception and production, and how the quantity and quality of parent/child communication affects a child’s development of speech comprehension and production. As an RA, I am a live-in student team member in the Residence Education and Housing Services Department. Worked as a research assistant in the Cox Neurophysiology Lab using techniques like electrophysiology, neuropharmacology, and immunohistology to study morphological differences in the lateral geniculate nucleus and the effect of diabetic retinopathy in mice. Duties: • Collaborate with PI's, graduate students, and MD/PhD students • Present data and progress on experiments at lab meetings • Using Voltage Clamp & 2 photon microscope, "patch" cells • Create bicarbonate & saline solutions (Artificial CerebroSpinal Fluid) • Read published papers on topics relating to diabetic retinopathy, electrophysiology, etc.

Instructed teens/pre-teens (ages 10-14) in weekly French lessons via Zoom through the MSU CLS Department on topics related to grammar, cuisine, culture, and intro-level French studies. Duties: • Instruct students for 1 hour on a weekly basis from Sep. 2020 to Dec. 2020 via Zoom • Create lesson plans/slideshows for students • Facilitate oral practice on French pronunciation and interactive activities for students • Publish self-assessments and extra practice/homework • Send out weekly emails and updates to parents on class material • Create 3 minute video recaps of class material for parents • Post all class materials to a shared Google drive for parents & students

What a rewarding and fascinating experience! It was my duty as a summer camp counselor to make sure all students were immersed in an educational and enjoyable environment while learning the art of theatre at The Roeper School. My jobs included creating a safe, friendly atmosphere for children, instructing students and managing their daily schedules, working one-on-one personally with students to inspire and motivate them to achieve more, working together as a team with younger students to direct theatrical plays, etc.

It was such a liberating and satisfying experience to see students excel and grow in the educational subjects they struggled in. My duties as a part-time tutor included working one-on-one with students to ameliorate their skills in mathematics and English, checking and grading papers/homework, communicating effectively with students to help explain and clarify complex topics, demonstrating different algebraic techniques, working at a desk to collect, file, and organize students’ paperwork, etc.
