About
Mariam has over 15years experience working in the area of Gender,Gender Equality and Transformation in Government,Women and youth Empowerment,Girl-Child Education,Peace building,Conflict Prevention and Management,in International and Local NGOs. Mariam is an immediate past staff of the USAID/FeedTheFuture/RING SS as the GESI Lead(Jan,1st,2024 to Jan. 2025,URBANET,August,2022 to December,2023. as a Project Coordinator.As a Gender Equality Coordinator,with Plan International Ghana, on the Global Affairs Canada SHOW(Strengthening Health Outcomes for Women and children) Project March,2017.Worked with the GDCA/E4L a Ghanaian-Danish Partnership NGO from 2008 to February, 2017 in various Positions including: , Gender officer, responsible for Youth,Women and Peace building : as well as a District Coordinator for the Empowerment for Life Project. An Educationist, with a 9 year experience as a,head teacher and as a District Girls Education officer with the GES in the Northern region of Ghana . West Africa Network for Peace building WANEP Ghana is another Organization Mariam worked at as the Women In Peace building officer for Ghana. 2005-2007 Whilst on schedule, she worked with her team members to impact positive changes in the lives of many, especially Women and Girls. -Increased in participation and improved assertiveness among the rural folk,and marginalized groups,notably women and girls through the contribution of my initiatives/interventions. Mariam also has some appreciable technical experience in the area of Agricultural and Green skills businesses. She is currently the Vice Secretary of FONG Rice Forum Platform for the Northern Zone in Ghana.(A platform that aims to coordinate all the Value chain actors in Rice Production to produce high Quality Rice,locally produced as a business.Small scale farmers through this will also have better market prices for their rice and other produce. -Supported some women groups on adding value to their produce.Eg.Processed Soybeans Milk,soyalac,khebab,beverage. -Capacity building and Trainings -Project Coordination and Management. -Capacity building training/Facilitation -Monitoring and Evaluation -Computer literacy in Microsoft word,PowerPoint,Publisher,Excel,social media -Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders -Strong coordination skills ,Excellent communication,problem solving,Analytical,among others. -. Speaks Ghanaian languages like Twi,Fanti,Hausa and native Dagbani -Fluent in Spoken,Writing and Reading in English Language.. -Engaged in a number of Volunteer works in Ghana.

MEDA - Growing Rural Opportunities for Women 2(GROW 2)

GROW 2 seeks to promote good agricultural and nutritional practices as well as community engagement for women's economic empowerment.It is a five year project that commenced in October,2021;and will come to a closure in September,2026.The project is jointly funded by Global Affairs Canada(GAC) and MEDA(Mennonite Economic Development Associates)partners.GROW 2 aims to improve the economic and social empowerment of women smallholder farmers(WSHFs),entrepreneurs,and agribusinesses in Northern Ghana. The project's target reach is 40,000 WSHFs,5,000 entrepreneurs, and 50 agribusinesses of which 50% or more of it clients should be women,in soyabean,groundnut,and vegetable value chain by the closure of the project.

The 5year Project that commenced in 2023 was expected to end in 2027.The project had 4 key areas or issues to address including ensuring Nutrition sufficiency intake.among children age 0-5,Improve food production through innovative agricultural practice and strategies,Ensuring Equality and Inclusivity of women,youth,girls,men and other diverse groups like the minority groups in all its interventions.Rights of citizens to demand accountability from power bearers was also done using the Score Card methodology. As the GESI lead,My Key responsibilities was supporting the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assemblies to Identify their district strategic needs that prevented them from operationalizing their Action Plans. As the Lead I work with the three GESI Specialists stationed in the regions,to develop a scope of work and budget,using the activities in their work plans.Upon release of funds,the team then engage in monitoring visits to the MMDAs to give Technical backstopping support to the staff of the department of Social Welfare,Community development,depart of Gender,who takes the center stage to lead all the processes.

A Maternal and Child health & Gender Transformative Project that seeks to complement the efforts of Ghana health services to reduce maternal mortality and child morbidity in deprived and difficult to reach community by the end of December,2019. -As a GE Coordinator,I ensure that Gender Equality (GE),is mainstreamed in all activities and Interviews. -I am present to make presentations on Gender Responsive and adolescent Friendly (GRAF) at all the Nurses trainings, in the two regions where I have been assigned to.Where I am not present, I send my presentations to my colleges to present to -Monitor the implementation of project activities by the District health directorate(DHD) and Local NGO partners with SHOW community groups on application of knowledge,particularly GE and inclusion of women and adolescent girls and boys in decision making the beneficiaries and also to ensure value for money on organization's funds. etc.
