Maria Montessori School. Choluteca, Honduras I am a teacher by vocation and with a social conscience. In Honduras, more than sixty percent of students live in extreme poverty, creating lack of equity and high rates of violence. When I learned about the Montessori method, I resigned from my position as an Economist at the Central Bank to return to education, receiving a scholarship to train as a Montessori by Gus & Noreen Cadieux, Northeast Montessori Institute.This method produces social change. In spite of limited resources, resistance to change and lack of familiarity with Montessori among the community I have seen remarkable results in the students I’ve worked with,making the struggles worthwile.
